We had a blast the last time we did this, but this year we are adding real-time logging and display of contacts and propagation! I hope you will get to participate. We're doing as much as possible to maximize the number of people who can participate.
Operators are invited to operate either from home or portable/mobile, as they desire. We'll try operating on at least 2 meter, 10, 15, 20, and 40. Technician class operators are invited to participate in the 2m and 10m tests even if they can not participate on the longer bands. 2m will be FM, while the longer bands will be SSB.
We'll begin operations on November 8th at 10AM local time by calling a net on the 146.640 repeater. Stations participating should check in there first. We will use this net to coordinate the activities. Once we have taken check-ins we'll then request each participant to move to a specified frequency to call for contacts. Stations hearing the station will respond and (at least) the calling station will log contacts using the NVIS Log (described later), the responding station may also log the contact. We'll rotate through all operators for each frequency/band. The software will real-time show the contact paths as contacts are entered.
Operators who have had a login for the triangulation software should be able to login to this component using the same credentials. Just visit https://amiausa.com/nvislog for a sneak peek.
The NVIS LOG Software
Emails will be sent out to all operators signed up for Carroll ARES very soon. The emails will have a link to the software and your login and password. Please note that this email is going out to a couple distribution lists, so receiving this email does NOT mean you are registered with ARES and will receive the login info. If you are not a member of ARES (or aren't sure) and wish to participate in this SET exercise you'll need to visit https://wx4bk.com and click the "Join ARES" button and sign up.
When you receive the email with the login info, please attempt logging in as soon as possible to ensure it works for you. We won't have time to resolve issues the morning of the test.
